Proper explanation of quest needed, and proper history of the Rainbow Fountain. |
The Rainbow Fountain and Naia, the Fountain Faerie as seen in the Rainbow Fountain CardNeoDeck image.
The Rainbow Fountain is 'an eternal waterfall of magical Faerieland water!' In some places it appears as a multi-colored river and waterfall, while in others it is simply blue. It currently exists in Faerieland and is attended by the Fountain Faerie. The waters of the fountain, when magical, will paint a Neopet almost any color. It was introduced in 2001 but its use has changed since that time.
Current Use[edit]
Jul 21, 2010 The Rainbow Fountain works on Neopets if you are a Neopets mod, or if you have a Fountain Faerie quest. Asked in Social Network Websites, Neopets. Naia Gender Female Species Faerie Home Faerieland Profession Runs the Rainbow Fountain Alignment Good The Rainbow Fountain Faerie is a Water Faerie who lives in Faerieland. Contentsshow Quests Fountain Faerie quests are extremely rare. She will ask you to find an item with a rarity of 94,95, or 96. This means it could be a cheap quest (she has been seen asking for Healing Potion XVII, which.
In its current state, the Rainbow Fountain will paint a user's pet almost any color is only active after a user has completed a quest for the Fountain Faerie. Fountain Faerie quests are the least common of the random faerie quests, with many users playing for years without receiving one. The item the Fountain Faerie requests is of high rarity (R 94-96) and, often, expensive. If a user simply visits the fountain without having a quest, they are met with the statement: My beautiful fountain is not working :( Unfortunately it seems that too many Neopets have bathed in these magical waters and have used up all the fountain's magical power. Oh well :( Maybe if you come back at another time you will be slightly more lucky!
Fountain Faerie Quest
If a user gets a quest, their job is to find the item the faerie has requested in either user shops, auctions, or trades, and return with it to the Quest Hut in the Faerie City where they give the item to the faerie. They are then then granted a single use of the Rainbow Fountain. The user can take as long as he or she likes to complete the quest and paint a pet, though the use of the Shop Wizard is blocked until the user has turned in the item at the Quest Hut. As mentioned earlier, there are certain colors that are not available through the Rainbow Fountain; 8-Bit, Ice, Magma, MSP, Quiguki, Robot, Royal, Sponge, and Usuki are all unavailable, even if the pet species is generally available in that color.
Original Use[edit]
Originally, the Rainbow Fountain was a reward to users for signing up with sponsors. Doing so would earn them coupons that could be used to paint their pets or change its species. While there were no restrictions on what species or colour your pet could be painted, at this early point in Neopets' history, neither the Draik nor Krawk existed and the only colour exclusive to the Lab Ray was Robot. The Rainbow Fountain was shut down after a few months, as is common for sponsor-related Freebies.
Related Items[edit]
There are eight Rainbow Fountain themed items floating around Neopia. Included among these are two books, a Rainbow Fountain Faerie Doll, a Neocash background, and a miniature 'Rainbow Fountain'. The rarest of these items is called Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water (originally Flash of Rainbow Fountain Water), which can be found while fishing in the Underwater Fishing caves if a user's pet has a fishing ability above 87. Using it on a pet will randomly paint that pet any colour available for its species (unconfirmed colour results are Invisible, Biscuit, Usuki, Mallow and Zombie).
Suggestions and Notes[edit]
- Compare the cost of the item needed to complete the quest to the cost of the Paint Brush before deciding to complete the quest.
- A user can paint any of their pets or create a new pet to paint.
- The user's active pet is the one which will be painted.
- Painting a Buzz any colour will earn a user the Buzzin' avatar.
- There is no time limit to complete the quest but, as with all of the random faerie quests, the user is prevented from utilizing the Shop Wizard until the item is turned in to the Quest Hut or the quest is declined.
- After turning in the item, there is no time limit to paint a pet. If a second Fountain Faerie Quest becomes available, the first use of the fountain must be used before turning in the item for the second quest.
- Though it is allowed to offer a Fountain Faerie Custom in a pet trade, it is against the rules for one user to paint another user's pet with their quest reward.

All the magic has been used up..wait, maybe not. ;)
The Rainbow Fountain is used to paint a pet a colour of your choice. Because this is an extremely popular service, only those who complete a quest for Naia the Fountain Faerie may use it. (And as of February 2015, Baelia's quests may also award a dip in the Fountain.)
Have you ever wondered what it looks like to get a Fountain quest? Want to know what happens when you do get one? Hopefully, this walkthrough can answer your questions.
Heads up! Using the Fountain's magic on an unconverted Neopet will convert it to the new art style.
Getting the Quest
Getting a Fountain Faerie quest (commonly abbreviated to FFQ) is a very rare event that happens while browsing the Neopets site. It comes in the form of a regular faerie quest, so if you didn't complete your last quest, or if you canceled/abandoned one recently, you need to visit the Faerie Quests page to make sure you're eligible to receive a new quest.
There is also the chance that you may be awarded a trip to the Rainbow Fountain after completing a Grey Faerie quest. Since Baelia has no rewards of her own, she will ask another faerie at random to award you their normal prize—which can include a dip from the Fountain Faerie. Neopets dark faerie.
When you receive a quest, here's what it looks like:
Faerie Quest Events
Neopets Faerie Quests
Starting in 2011, and each year since, Fyora gathers all of the faeries for a week and offers daily faerie quests to all Neopians. Instead of randomly stumbling upon a faerie, you are able to go the Faerie Quests page once per day during the event to receive a quest.
The faerie that grants you a quest is still random, but it's possible for Naia to pop up and offer you a quest during this event. Baelia, as well, offers quests during this event.
Completing the Quest
Now, in order to receive entry to the Rainbow Fountain, you have to obtain the item the faerie wants. The item can be any r94-96 item, which will vary greatly in price.
If you're having second thoughts about going to buy an unbuyable item, consider what you wish to paint your Neopet. If you were to paint your Neopet using a regular paint brush (or morphing potion), would you be spending less Neopoints than the cost of the item Naia is asking for? If so, then the quest is worth the expense! Prices fluctuate all the time, though, so make sure to do your research using Jellyneo's Item Database.
If you decide to go through with the quest and are unable to use the Shop Wizard, check the Trading Post, Auction House, or ask for help on the Quests Neoboard. There are always people there who are willing to search user shops on your behalf.
There is no time limit on the Fountain Faerie's quests, which is just as well since it might take you a while to get together the Neopoints necessary to buy the item she has requested. She will sit quietly and wait for you to return, although you won't be able to use the Shop Wizard while you have a quest outstanding.
Purchase the item, then go to the Faerie Quests page to hand it in.
Neopets Rainbow Fountain
It is also worth mentioning that you have to have at least one Neopet on your account before you turn in the item. This probably won't be an issue for most of you, but you should bear this in mind if you receive a quest on a side account where you don't hold any Neopets. If you don't have any Neopets and you complete a quest, you will not be given the opportunity to create a pet to paint. Naia will simply thank you for the item and then leave without granting you access to the Fountain.
Claiming Your Reward
Once you have Fountain access, you can take your time—& you won't get kicked out for being indecisive. You can go about your business in Neopia, safe in the knowledge that you can return to the Fountain whenever you choose.
When you would like to paint your Neopet, set it as your active pet in Quick Ref, and visit the Rainbow Fountain to choose the colour.

Your New Paint Job!
Congratulations! By now your pet should have obtained a spiffy new paint job!
As a note, your pet's clothing will be removed upon a successful dip. You may also not see the new version of your Neopet if the old image is being cached by your computer, but in most cases you'll see the results on the success page above.
Neopets 18th birthday celebration goodie bag. Special - This is the official type for this item on Neopets. Inside This Item. This goodie bag will award you with the following item: Glow in the Dark Backdrop; You also receive the coupon code Y19BIRTHDAY, which was good for 150 NC off of a 1,000 NC purchase until November 22, 2017. (However, the coupon code was not properly activated.
Once you successfully finish the painting process, your access ends, and you'll have to wait for another invitation from Naia in order to paint another Neopet.
You may have only one Fountain access pass at a time! If you have completed a Fountain quest and don't use it right away, you will want to use it before turning in another Fountain quest item (should you be lucky enough to receive another one). You cannot 'stack' dips in the Fountain by completing multiple Fountain quests. You can, however keep your second quest incomplete for as long as you like, so long as you don't mind forfeiting the use of the Shop Wizard.
Avatar
As is often the case around Neopia, there's a Neoboard avatar to unlock at the Rainbow Fountain:

Rainbow Fountain Do's and Don'ts
There are a number of rules surrounding what you can and cannot do with your Rainbow Fountain dips, both in regards to side accounts and how you can share them with other Neopians. If you're thinking of using the Rainbow Fountain on a side account or sharing a dip with a Neofriend, here's what you should keep in mind:
You may..
- Paint any Neopet that you already own, any Neopet in the pound, and newly created Neopets (when you're intending to keep owning any of these types of Neopets).
- Advertise your offer to use a Rainbow Fountain dip for another Neopian to paint a Neopet that you already own that is up for adoption or trade. (As per Editorial, Issue 334.)
- Complete a Fountain Faerie Quest on your side account, as long as it was obtained randomly by browsing Neopia (you cannot participate in the yearly Faerie Quest Events or open Faerie Quest Fortune Cookies on side accounts). (As per Editorial, Issue 532.)
- Transfer a Neopet that you own from either a main or side account to whatever account belonging to you that has a Rainbow Fountain dip available. (As per Editorial, Issue 572.)
You may not..
- Obtain a Neopet owned by someone else, paint that Neopet at the Rainbow Fountain, and then send that Neopet back to the previous owner. (As per Editorial, Issue 703 and Editorial, Issue 483.)
- You cannot participate in the yearly Faerie Quest Events or open Faerie Quest Fortune Cookies on your side accounts. (As per editorial Editorial, Issue 716.)
- You cannot offer to use a Rainbow Fountain dip in exchange for any Neopoints, Neocash, or items. (As per Editorial, Issue 389.)
Thanks goes to Chips for helping to compile this list of do's and don'ts!
